In this lesson students will explore the physical characteristics of insects and how they camouflage themselves to avoid being eaten by predators.

Students will explore the outdoor classroom in pairs looking for evidence of animal life and imagining what types of animals might live in and around the area.

Biology is designed for multi-semester biology courses for science majors. It is grounded on an evolutionary basis and includes exciting features that highlight careers in the biological sciences and everyday applications of the concepts at hand. To meet the needs of today’s instructors and students, some content has been strategically condensed while maintaining the overall scope and coverage of traditional texts for this course. Instructors can customize the book, adapting it to the approach that works best in their classroom. Students will compare different plant traits and determine how each structure helps that species of plant grow and reproduce in the schoolyard habitat. After which, students can observe each plant for acquired traits.

Students will explore the garden environment for examples of organisms having their needs met and will be given an event that might cause that organism to thrive, move or perish.

Students will learn about the ways garden organisms depend on each other in their environment for survival. Animals eat plants and/or other animals for food this will show students how energy is transferred from the sun to living things.
